Functionality
Abstract:
A functional perspective on CALL-systems allows an assessment of the possibilities for CL integration. It seems clear that the ultimate goal of applying CL methods should be the improvement of functionality. In taking this perpective two main areas of application can be identified. Either the program may be improved without considering language in the first place or the "content" can be improved by using CL methods for the analysis of language data either from the learner or for the learner.

FunctionalityIn taking a functional perspective on CALL-systems the integration of CL methods can be researched as this is relevant for the goal of it all: supporting the acquisition of a foreign language in a more effective and adequate way.
Functionality and ToolsTools seem to be a good candidate for the application of CL technology. However it is difficult to develop a learning scenario for the kinds of information CL-tools can deliver.
Functionality and Information SystemsAs opposed to tools a number of information systems have been developed and used in language learning. Again there is the question of whether students actually can handle the information generated from CL applications.
