The licensing nature of psych verbs
Skepticism has emerged that questions the special status of psych verbs tracing it back to weak empirical evidence. I will present acceptability studies on argument order and binding showing that EO verbs have indeed special properties. Moreover, I present morpho-syntactic and semantic facts that reveal an even more complex picture of the nature of these verbs. For example, why do we say "be disgusted by" but "be worried about"? Or, why is "The scream fascinated her" rather about the way it sounded, whereas "The scream worried her" is about the fact that there was a scream?
