Syllabus:

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge about computer vision and programming experience (e.g. MATLAB, C++, openCV), strong interest in 3D reconstruction using structure from x (SFx) approaches.

How to recover 3D structures of an object from several 2D projections like photos or videos? This course will attempt to give an introduction to the underlying mathematics of image-based 3D reconstruction methods based on the textbook "Multiple view geometry in computer vision" by Hartley, and Zisserman. Next, to the mathematics, students attending this course will reconstruct real objects e.g. a coffee mug, out of a set of photos and discuss the advantages and drawbacks of state-of-the-art reconstruction approaches.
