ERASMUS in COGNITIVE SCIENCE - General Information

Opportunities for studying and for internships abroad

LLP/ERASMUS PROGRAMME

Since 1987, ERASMUS has been supporting mobility among students and teachers. The supportive framework is made up of European partnership programs on the university or school level. In 2007, the ERASMUS programme was expanded. Under the name of “Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP)”, it now also covers non-university areas of education. The name ERASMUS was kept for the university branch of the programme. The ERASMUS programme has become an important driving force behind European university partnerships, especially for student exchanges. Over one million students have participated in the programme by now, which allows them to acquire not only expertise in their subject of study, but also life experience through an integrated study programme abroad. Today, ERASMUS supports almost 90% of German students who are studying abroad in a European country.

The ERASMUS programme allows students to spend one or two semesters at a partner university in Europe. As an ERASMUS student you do not have to pay any fees, and you are eligible for some financial support (€150–€200 per month). In addition, you do not need to pass an entry test and there is support and help available at the university abroad – sometimes even with accommodation issues.

ECTS earned during your studies can usually be accredited for your degree at Osnabrück.

Partner Universities

In addition to the LLP/ERASMUS programme, the University of Osnabrück and the Institute of Cognitive Science maintain bilateral partnerships with many universities throughout the world. These partnerships usually involve exchange opportunities that enable students to spend a semester abroad without having to pay study fees. The application procedure is also simplified in most cases. While there is no direct financial support for studying at partner universities, you may apply for a grant from various funding bodies.

Applications for exchange stays at partner universities outside the LLP/ERASMUS programme are handled directly by the International Office.
